AHCCHM304 – This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to safely handle, transport and store chemicals.

The unit applies to individuals who work under broad direction and take responsibility for their own work. They use discretion and judgement in the selection, allocation and use of available resources and for solving problems.

AHCPMG301 – This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to plan and coordinate weed control activities using appropriate strategies to provide effective, economic control while minimising environmental damage.

The unit applies to individuals who work under broad direction and take responsibility for their own work. They use discretion and judgement in the selection, allocation and use of available resources and for solving problems.

State or territory licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply in some jurisdictions.

This course is suitable for persons with a requirement to obtain a Statement of Attainment in controlling weeds, transporting and storing chemicals and in preparing and applying chemicals to treat pests, weeds and disease. 

While there are no pre-requisites for this course, you will need to have sufficient English language skills to complete the competency based chemical training. You will also be required to undertake practical training and assessments which will entail preparing and using a handheld sprayer which weighs 6.5kg at full capacity.

Technology

• Access to the internet and ability to stream and/or download training materials, and upload completed assessment items (such as MP4 videos, Adobe & Microsoft files). 
• Access to photography & video recording devices (e.g.: camera phone) for practical assessment items.
• Access to printer & scanner for completed written assessment items
• Ability to download/upload items via Dropbox, Google Drive, or posted USB/hard drive

Practical Assessment Equipment

• Access to hand-held spray device (e.g.: backpack sprayer, Ute-mounted spray unit, knapsack sprayer etc.) & measuring jug
• Access to Ute, truck or trailer for transporting chemical photograph, & tie down strap(s)
• Chemical Spill Kit: Empty container, water container,  shovel or dustpan, something to soak up the residual chemical (e.g.: sand, kitty litter, lime)
• Pegs, flagging tape, hammer for marking out a weed

Our Chemical course is a two-day course in person.  On day one students will be required to cover all of theory aspects of this course. On day two students will be required to undertake the practical components. Please view course listings on the home page of this website for specific start/finish times and venues.

The hours are generally 8:00am to 4:00pm, but students should refer to their specific course listing on the homepage of the Duff Consulting website for specific times and venues as this can sometimes differ to meet client needs.

Online Chemical Accreditation can be completed at your own pace. Industrious students with experience in the subject matter often complete this course in one day, but others may like to take more time.

ALL ATTENDEES ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR WORK-APPROPRIATE CLOTHING TO THE COURSE

All participants must wear sun-safe clothing and closed-in footwear. PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) may be brought along to training. For those who do not own this equipment, or do not wish to bring their own, PPE items will be supplied. Webinar participants will require access to their own PPE to complete the course.

Morning tea, tea and coffee will be supplied. Participants are to provide their own lunch or purchase it on the day.

Participants will learn the process of safely preparing and applying chemicals including (but not limited to) transporting, handling, and storing chemicals safely, and identifying and controlling weeds to comply with legislative requirements.

Successful participants will receive a ‘Statement of Attainment’ with the ‘Units of Competency’ listed above, issued by Health Security Education that can be used to meet legislative, regulatory and workplace requirements in their relevant fields of employment.

The face to face course will be delivered firstly in a classroom environment to cover the theory aspects and then move to an outdoor area for completion of the practical components.

Trainees will receive an email with instructions on how to view and download the training materials. Participants are then required to complete and forward their knowledge assessments and provide photographs and videos to demonstrate their practical competency.

A variety of assessment methods are utilised to ensure you develop the required skills and knowledge and to keep the course a practical, hands-on-learning experience. These methods are:

• Theory Questions
• Practical Assessments delivered under workplace conditions

All assessments are carried out in English.

If you are unhappy about any assessment result, then seeking a re-assessment is usually the first strategy. If you are still unhappy about the assessment process or result, then the Complaints and Appeals Process may be invoked.
