This course is suitable for persons currently employed in industry with a requirement to obtain a Statement of Attainment in transporting and storing chemicals and in preparing and applying chemicals to treat pests, weeds and disease. Students are assumed to have pre-existing knowledge of chemicals. Students will have prepared and applied chemicals in the past either in a domestic environment or in the workplace. Students will also typically have completed their workplace orientation and induction training and be familiar with foundation concepts relating to workplace health and safety including identifying hazards in the workplace, assessing the risks and putting in place measures to control those risks. They will also be used to following chemical labels and Safety Data Sheets and wearing personal protective equipment. Many of the participants will have also previously undergone the same or equivalent training. If an individual does not meet these requirements they may be deemed ineligible for short course delivery.

While there are no pre-requisites for this course, you will need to have sufficient English language skills to complete the competency based chemical training. You will also be required to undertake practical training and assessments which will entail preparing and using a handheld sprayer which weighs 6.5kg at full capacity.

How we will deliver the course

The face to face course will be delivered firstly in a classroom environment to cover the theory aspects and then move to an outdoor area for completion of the practical components.

The hours are generally 8:00am to 5:00pm, but students should refer to their specific course listing on the homepage of the Duff Consulting website for specific times and venues as this can sometimes differ to meet client needs.

All resources required on the day will be supplied.

Due to the Covid 19 pandemic it has become necessary to minimise where practicable, face to face training.  To this end, we also deliver a one-day virtual training day, where participants can attend and interact with the trainer via the internet.

Participants are then required to complete and forward their knowledge assessments and provide photographs and videos to demonstrate their practical competency. This work is expected to take a further day to complete.

Assessment Requirements

A variety of assessment methods are utilised to ensure you develop the required skills and knowledge and to keep the course a practical, hands-on-learning experience. These methods are:

  • Theory Questions
  • Practical Assessments delivered under workplace conditions

All assessments are carried out in English.

If you are unhappy about any assessment result, then seeking a re-assessment is usually the first strategy. If you are still unhappy about the assessment process or result, then the Complaints and Appeals Process may be invoked. For more information regarding the Appeals Process you should follow if you are unhappy with an assessment result go Health Security & Education Student Handbook.

Recognition of Prior Learning

We offer recognition of existing skills and knowledge, please refer to the Student Handbook for more information.

Requirements for Completion

You must attend 100% of this ACDC Ag Vet Chemical User Accredited training course and satisfactorily complete all the assessment tasks. If you feel you may need support to complete the learning or assessment tasks either because of a literacy issue, a learning difficulty or a physical disability, please let us know and we may be able to make adjustments to our learning and assessment processes.
